about

Dystopia details two different stories within the same society: essentially the proletariat in the first verse and the bourgeoisie in verse 2. Both sides explain their place in a corrupt society, which draws parallels to the present day look at politics in America. The song presents a strong 1980s influence in both the realms of new wave and punk. The music and thematics are a clear reference to the dystopian future described in George Orwell's novel "1984".

lyrics

The present stands on the top of its end
Dystopian, we all try to fit in
The pressure's on and I call out to you
Will you catch my fall?

City lights have us under control
Metallic minds have polluted our souls
We reach for you but our calls are ignored
Will we see the end

We bless these hands and they begin to fall
In the words of our God we plead
Please teach us how to
Reap what we sow

Concrete paths are what we use to sleep
They've taken all we eat
And I lie awake and
Wonder why it must be this way?

Stand up, the coils pierce the
Attention, how foolish we the
Creators, to give and give to
Those who do not pay

My hands, they bleed
It'll only last a few more weeks
Electronically resend
And finally reach the end (eat, work, die)
My body's a shell
A former man trudging through hell
Computing my worth
Time is money but money isn't worth my time

For twenty years, I've been running this show
The stage is set, we're all ready to go
Anxiety still besets in my mind
Should I take it as a sign?

Spotlight's on and I gaze at my peers
Do I recite do I conquer my fears
They need me now and I've let them all down
Still I wear my crown

The room is clear and they've returned back home
Still their seeds will not grow
They'll never be repaid
For what they've sewn

My kingdom's run by those who own the most
Not the people they have chose
Welcome to a world
Of a dystopia

Stand up, the coils pierce the
Attention, how foolish we the
Creators, to give and give to
Those who do not pay

My hands, they bleed
It'll only last a few more weeks
Electronically resend
And finally reach the end (eat, work, die)
My body's a shell
A former man trudging through hell
Computing my worth
Time is money but money isn't worth my time

Studies show that when a given norm is changed in the face of the
Unchanging, the remaining contradictions will parallel the truth
Equate rhyme with reason
Sun with season
Reject mediocrity

My hands, they bleed
It'll only last a few more weeks
Electronically resend
And finally reach the end (eat, work, die)
My body's a shell
A former man trudging through hell
Computing my worth
Time is money but money isn't worth my time
